Large Hand-Carved African Akua’ba Style Family Sculpture
Large Hand-Carved African Akua’ba Style Family Sculpture
A striking and highly decorative hand-carved African-inspired family sculpture in the traditional Akua’ba fertility figure style, featuring a central female figure flanked by two smaller companion figures.
Beautifully carved from solid wood, the sculpture displays bold geometric styling with oversized circular heads, simplified body forms, and intricate beadwork decoration to the faces. The larger central figure is further embellished with colourful beaded detailing and a stylised bird motif to the forehead, creating a wonderfully graphic and sculptural presence.
Inspired by traditional West African fertility figures associated with the Akan and Ashanti peoples of Ghana, this piece blends traditional symbolism with later Afro-modern decorative craftsmanship, making it an eye-catching statement piece for contemporary interiors.
The warm dark finish and visible hand-carved character give the sculpture excellent texture and depth, while the family grouping composition adds both visual balance and emotional appeal.
A superb decorative object ideal for shelves, consoles, sideboards, or curated interior spaces.
